An efficient picking process utilizes speech recognition and automation

On August 16, 2023, we organized a customer event at our client Medifon’s warehouse premises, where their Head of SCM and IT, Jyrki Ristinen, informed our visitors about the Talk’nPick solution provided by Devoca. Altogether, nearly 20 interested decision-makers from Finland’s leading internal logistics companies were present.

Talk’nPick leverages speech recognition and a multimodal interface for product picking and delivery. Warehouse pickers can also utilize multi-picking, significantly increasing efficiency compared to traditional single-order paper or barcode-based picking.

The event in Medifon premises also introduced the a Autostore system that is still under construction, which will handle smaller picking tasks through robots. Due to Medifon’s rapid growth, they needed additional capacity, making this space-efficient solution the most sensible choice. This frees up personnel to focus on more demanding tasks, which will still be managed through Talk’nPick. Through these systems, Medifon’s picking process is smoother and more efficient than ever before, ensuring rapid delivery of pharmacy products.

Medifon has achieved significant benefits from the Talk’nPick voice picking system. Deliveries occur rapidly and without errors, improving customer satisfaction. Ristinen stated that picking efficiency has more than doubled, and employee satisfaction has increased. The user-friendly system, along with hands-free and gaze-free operation, boosts job satisfaction—employees can also work at their own pace. The message from the employees is that there is no going back to clunky and frustrating tools and methods.

This innovative picking system is a clear example of how technology and intelligent solutions can revolutionize logistics and delivery processes. Medifon continues to be a pioneer in this field, constantly seeking new ways to improve its operations and services. We also received a briefing on Zebras’ ultra-durable Android-based data devices, along with finger scanners and printers that can be attached to them, as well as a dock that expands the data collection device into a workstation. The industry trend is wearable technologies that support and enhance processes in warehouses.
